How to avoid turning a salad into a caloric bomb

salad dressing

When you hear the word ‘salad’, you automatically think of a healthy snack or even a main course. But what if we told you that even the healthiest options can turn into real caloric bombs if you use the wrong dressing?

Yes, that’s right, you must be very careful what you choose to ‘spice up’ your salad, so we’ve put together a few tips on how to choose the right dressing for it!

Avoid sauces that come in bottles

Seriously now, they’re full of sugar, salt and preservatives! Do you need any extra reasons why these turn your salad into a caloric bomb?

Making your own dressing is way better, not to mention that it’s fun and delicious. And if you don’t have the time to do it whenever you want a salad, just make more sauce at the beginning of the week and keep it in the fridge, in a hermetically sealed container.

Watch the portions

Most restaurants put in their salads a double amount of dressing than necessary. In order to avoid turning your salad into an enemy of the silhouette, order the dressing separately and put a smaller amount on your plate.

Use just healthy ingredients

Instead of using mayonnaise as a base for your dressing, try sweet yogurt, avocado or even nut butter! For a more flavorful dressing, try mixing a teaspoon of miso paste, tahini and a bit of apple vinegar. Add bigger amounts if the salad you’re making is for a lot of people. By this, your dressing will be 100% healthy and it won’t turn the salad into a caloric bomb!
