Following the example of some celebrities, a lot of people who want a slim silhouette adopt the gluten-free diet. Still, the main problem is that they choose it without considering its more or less positive effects.

The presence of gluten-free foods on supermarket shelves and the aggressiveness with which they are often promoted lead sometimes to unconscious choice, that can affect your health.

It might not bring the desired effects

Doctors warn that some products specific to a gluten-free diet are beneficial in some cases, like, for example, in the treatment of colon cancer. On the other side, in a diet for losing weight, they are ineffective, representing an unnecessary expense, since there’s no evident to confirm their effectiveness.

Often, gluten-free products are unhealthy from a nutritional point of view, as they contain many carbohydrates, sugar or calories.

According to specialists, a gluten-free diet targets those who suffer from gastrointestinal disorders or have an intolerance to gluten. Also, it’s contraindicated in other cases, since the diet deprives the body of fiber, iron, calcium, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin and folic acid compounds, essential for the harmonious development of the entire body.

For people sensitive to gluten, the diet is strongly recommended because even a small amount can lead to nutritional deficiencs, diarrhea, irritation and even depression, while on long term, there is also the risk of bowel cancer.

Miley Cyrus, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah are just some of the stars who claim to have managed to lose weight using the gluten-free diet. They promote the idea that after eliminating gluten they started feeling better, had more energy and a balanced emotional state.

However, let’s not forget that these personalities have chosen this lifestyle because they were forced to follow a particular treatment and choose to give up gluten without having a serious medical reason.
